Why attend ?

Practitioners of microfinance must negotiate a constantly evolving balance of challenges and resources in their fight against poverty. Based on feedback from participants and faculty each year, we pride ourselves on providing an MFT experience that combines the flexibility and professionalism required for success in this demanding field.

As an MFT participant, you will:
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the essential principles and current ideas of microfinance ‘best practices,’
  • Become familiar with important case examples and programs from around the world,
  • Enjoy a valuable opportunity to explore key issues with fellow participants and leading experts in the field, both within and outside the classroom,
  • Meet your individual learning needs with our unique offering of core courses and electives that address specific areas of interest and competency,
  • Develop an extensive personal network of practitioners and professionals from around the world that will continue to provide returns long after you have graduated.
BI programs provide a global context for local concerns and approaches.

There is no other comparable opportunity within the microfinance industry to gain access to cutting edge ideas from all over the world while simultaneously acquiring the fundamentals of commonly agreed upon best practice and principles. BI believes that participants will learn best through a variety of approaches, including state of the art training, extensive conversations with peers, a full library of recent publications, and access to leading thinkers.  We also believe that the learning will continue well beyond the confines of the three week program.

Participants will confront challenges to many of their closest held views, yet reaffirm their core experiences and part in the global community of individuals committed to providing poor families to access to financial services. Boulder Institute faculty are committed to the principle of sustainability in the provision of financial services, while simultaneously grappling with the smart use of subsidy and mechanisms for expanding outreach.
